LightWeight Bot Battle Championship Rules

MATCH DESCRIPTION

There are 2 types of Bot Battle matches: Duel (3-minute one-on-one battle), and Melee (5-minute three- or four-way battle). The bots start each match on the opposite sides of a 3-foot circular ring with a 2-inch high wall. A duel is over either when time runs out, or one of the two bots is K.O.'ed or T.K.O.'ed. A melee is over either when time runs out, or all but one bot are K.O.'ed or T.K.O.'ed. Once the match has started, drivers are not allowed to touch their bots until the match is over, and the referee has given the All-Clear.

WAYS TO WIN

1. Knock-Out, or "K.O.":

A knock-out is scored by knocking the opponent's mini-figure out of its seat, and onto the ring floor. Note: a knock-out is not complete until the opponent's mini-figure touches the ring floor.

2. Technical Knock-Out, or "T.K.O.":

There are multiple ways to score a T.K.O., but they all have to do with disabling the opponent's bot without actually knocking the mini-figure out onto the ring floor.

Some examples of scoring a T.K.O. are:

A) Using your bot to pop up, or "flip" the opponent bot into a position where it cannot walk, or right itself.

B) Using your bot to disconnect the opponent bot's motor cables from the battery pack.

C) Using your bot to push the opponent bot over the wall, and out of the ring (this is very unlikely but can sometimes happen by accident).

D) Using your bot to mechanically disable BOTH of the opponent bot's legs.

3. Points & Judges' Decisions:

If by the end of the match a K.O. or T.K.O. has not been scored, the judges will make a decision based on points awarded for Damage done to each of the bots. If the bots are equally damaged, judges will make a decision based on points awarded for Aggression and Ring Control.

Specification Breakdown

HANDLING

How difficult is it to drive the robot? Even though all four of the bots have identical walking mechanisms, they are not all equally easy to drive. Remember that the bots' weapons can seriously affect how they walk. Typically, the bots with the most powerful weapons will be the hardest to drive.

DURABILITY

How hard is it to damage the bot's weapon? Keep in mind that just because a bot's weapon is effective or powerful, doesn't mean it cannot be broken.

POWER

How hard does the bot strike? Pretty simple, right?

SPEED

How often does the bot strike? Just because a bot has a powerful weapon, doesn't always mean it can use it rapidly.

REACH

How long is the bot's weapon? Speed and Power are important, but not if the bot keeps getting hit before it can get itself into striking range.

PERSISTENCE

How easy is it to land repeating strikes with the bot's weapon? Speed definitely helps, but if each hit pushes your opponent's bot out of range, this might make it hard to keep hitting it.

DEFENSE

Sometimes it may be helpful to push your opponent's bot away. This is when the bot's weapon can be used defensively, to get into a better position, or to simply get out of a bad spot.

WEAPON X

Some of the bots may have secondary (secret) weapons. What are they? This one is for you to figure out ;)

11:00am - 11:30am:  Check-In, Driving Practice, Orientation.

When you arrive, you will pick up your tickets at the Check-In desk, and go to the practice area. Here you will get a chance to drive each of the 4 bot types (Revolution, Hawaiian Punch, Chain Reaction and Gravity Drop for equal lengths of time. Not too long, but long enough to make your selection. Choose wisely; you will be driving this bot at least until the Semifinals. Once you have picked your bot, head back to the Check-In desk to receive your Driver Badge and Driver Number. After that you can walk around, check out the rings, meet the other drivers, and take a look at the posters on the walls. We think you'll find them very informative...

11:30am - 12:20pm:  Elimination Duels (ED), Elimination Melees (EM),

Second Chance Melees (SM) & Duels (SD).

In the Elimination Duels each bot will face only other bots of the same type (For example, Revolution-type bots will only face other Revolution-type bots). If you win this match, you will move on to Elimination Melees (EM). If not, you will get another go at it in a Second Chance Melee.

In the Elimination Melees 4 bots of the same type will face each other in a battle to see who will move on to the next round - The Final Elimination Melee (FM). One bot will move on. Everyone else is welcome to hang out and enjoy the rest of the show. :)

If you know you can do better on your second try, one of the two Second Chance Melees and Duels are the perfect opportunity to get back into the bracket. Here 4 bots will face off in a last-bot-standing match. The winners of the two Second Chance Melees will face each other in a Second Chance Duel, and the winner of the Second Chance Duel will continue on to the Final Elimination Melee (FM)

12:20pm - 12:55pm:  Final Elimination Melees (FM), Semi-Finals (SF), Finals (FIN).

The Final Elimination Melee is another last-man-standing match, but between just 3 bots. Win here, and you will continue to the Semifinals (SF)!

The Semifinals are the first matches where bots of different types will have to face each other. Before the Semifinals begin, you will have a chance to switch bots. Did you change your mind about your initial bot selection? Maybe it's it not performing quite as you expected? No problem. Switch to another bot, and get ready to face one of the other semifinalists. If you win, you will continue to the FINAL MATCH (FIN)! If not, you will still move on to compete in one more match, for the Bronze Medal (3rd Place).

In the Final Match, 2 bots will face off for one last match of the tournament. If you win here, you are the Bot Battle LightWeight CHAMPION! Congratulations, you get the Gold Medal! If you didn't win... Congratulations, you get the Silver Medal!

12:55pm - 1:00pm:  Award Ceremony

During the Award Ceremony, the winners of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals will receive their tournament posters, trophies and LEGO Store gift cards.

Congrats, you did it!
